The Mindful Messages Curriculum consists of 12 Lessons. These 12 lessons in the workbook are formatted A to Z into approximately 145 exercises. Each exercise is based on a selected phrase taken from the poetry. Each phrase and corresponding question contains topics and themes that are relevant to life skills and healthy youth development. 30% of the questions refer to HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention and "at risk" behavior. The answers are fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice and/or short answer. Some of the answers are common sense, others might require some thought, but most of them can be found in the Mindful Messages handbook.
Strategically placed among the curriculum content are 48 African Proverbs and 48 Mindful Notes that support the topics and themes. Together they provide the cultural and historical stimulus that helps engage and empower the creative inner spirit.
The MMMP Teacher’s Guidebook is designed to provide educators with a basic game plan. It contains the learning objectives for each of the 12 lessons along with the answers and suggestions. It also includes extra activities and discussion ideas that will further expand the student’s educational experience. And there is a section on mindfulness and meditation for the classroom.
The amount of time needed to conduct a workshop is dependant on the age of the youth, group size and mentoring/teaching style. The MMMP adapts to any environment and allows the parent, mentor or educator to customize their program by adding in additional activities, as suggested in the Teachers Guidebook.
